Thought of the Day 1/2/2020

“Oh sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things! His right hand and His holy arm have worked salvation for him. The Lord has made known His salvation; He has revealed His righteousness in the sight of the nations.” Psalms‬ ‭98:1-2‬ ‭(ESV‬‬)

Take a moment to think it over: God had such a great love for us that though we as sinners were separated from Him, He would not allow that to be our final fate. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, as the intermediary and redeemer of our sins. All we have to do is trust Jesus as the Son of God and seek forgiveness for our sins that keep us from God. Once we have been made right with God our hearts, being made clean, will burst forth with a song of praise to the One who created us and loves us with an everlasting love. Are you right with God, and this able to sing this song of praise? If not, please contact us for more information on how you can become redeemed by the blood of Christ.

Thought of the Day 1/10/2020

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalms‬ ‭73:26‬ ‭(ESV‬‬)

The Psalmist here in today’s verse understands the brevity and fragility of his own life. He understands that circumstances will arise where, in sickness or trials or even death, he will not be mentally, emotionally, or physically strong enough to overcome them. However, he also holds an important treasure in knowing that God will always be the strength for him when he cannot overcome what life puts in front of him. When contemplating trials of this life, and even ultimately death itself, are you able to say with such confidence as the Psalmist that God will be “the strength of [your] heart and [your] portion forever”?

Thought of the Day 1/13/2020

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalms‬ ‭119:105‬ ‭(ESV‬‬)

Truly this is a dark and fallen world that we live in, and sometimes it can be so hard to know which way to go or what to do amidst all the darkness. It is especially in those times that we need to be like the Psalmist and dive into the Word of God. His Word will not only light up the darkness around us and illuminate the path He has planned for us, but it will empower us to shine His light to those who are lost in a sea of darkness. Have you recharged your spiritual light lately? Get into the Word right now — put down your phone or tablet and take some time with God.

Thought of the Day 1/17/2020

“From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised!”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭113:3‬ ‭(ESV‬‬)

Not just on Sunday morning. Not just when speaking with your “Christian friends”. Not only when things go “right” or the way you want them to in life. “From the rising of the sun to its setting” — or, at all times and in all things — “the name of the Lord is to be praised!” “He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.”” (Luke‬ ‭19:40‬ ‭ESV‬‬) We should not wait for the stones to cry out; rather, we should busy ourselves with shouting the praises of our Lord and Creator from sunrise to sunset each and every day!

Thought of the Day 1/22/2020

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalms‬ ‭37:4‬ ‭(ESV‬‬)

Alright! The verse we have been waiting for! Just be happy with God and He will give you whatever you want! Wait. Is that what this verse really means? Well, there are certainly many false teachers out there that would lead you to believe so; however, there is a slight problem. The problem arises with “desires”, and what desires do you have — ones that line up with God’s will and righteousness, or carnal desires of wealth and prosperity? In order to obtain any of the “desires of your heart” you must first “delight yourself in the Lord” by following His direction for your life, reading, studying, and applying His Word to your life, maintaining a healthy prayer life, and fellowship with fellow believers. These actions will tune your heart to God so that what you desire is what He desires for you and through you. So yes, God will give you the “desires of your heart”, if you will make your focus Him and His will for you.

Thought of the Day 1/27/2020

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.” Psalms‬ ‭19:14‬ ‭(ESV‬‬)

Unfortunately in today’s world, when we hear the world “pious” our first thoughts tend to go towards someone who is egotistical, self-righteous, vain, or even hypocritical. However, I believe we can rightly call the Psalmist here a pious man, though not under those definitions. He was pious in that he had the true hope and desire that he would be wholly, completely devoted to His Lord. With complete devotion unto God comes the desire to maintain only pure and righteous thoughts, speech, and even actions. This was the piety the Psalmist possessed as he so desperately pleaded to God to redirect his words and thoughts of his heart from their carnal leanings toward God’s righteous will for his life, all for the honor and glory of God. What kind of piety are you exhibiting? How are your thoughts and what kind of words are you allowing to come forth from your lips?

Thought of the Day 2/1/2020

“I have set the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.” Psalms‬ ‭16:8‬ ‭(ESV‬‬)

If you have put your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, you ought always to keep that in the forefront of your mind. Having Him as the One you have trusted for salvation, surely you can trust Him when the battles of life take their stance against you, as He will always be beside you as your “shield and buckler” (Psalm 91:4) who is faithful to protect you. With this trust and understanding of the shield and protection you have from your Lord, you can remain unshaken and free of fear and anxiety, even amidst the fiercest foe. Do you trust Him?

Thought of the Day 2/27/2020

My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” Psalms‬ ‭121:2‬ ‭(ESV‬‬)

When you are in need, where do you turn? A close friend? A family member? Perhaps something to numb the pain — drugs, alcohol, gambling, sex (or seeking relationships in general). Those may make you temporarily feel better, but they cannot help in the same way our Lord and Creator God can help us. See the next verse of this Psalm: “He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber.” (Psalms‬ ‭121:3‬) God is faithfully waiting for you to seek Him out in the good times and in the bad times. He is always there, you need only to turn to Him and trust that He will provide for you. So do you have that faith and trust that He can solve your need and provide and any situation? I pray you do.

Thought of the Day 3/25/2020

When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul.” Psalms‬ ‭94:19‬ ‭(ESV‬‬)

In these difficult days you would be hard pressed to find a person without cares of the heart that are “many”. The question now becomes what to do with these cares, these worries, the stress and anxiety that is oftentimes overwhelming. The world and society will offer many options but even if you try every single one of them, I guarantee you that you will not find one that is lasting; they are all temporary, just a bandaid over a gaping wound. However, God offers consolation that will wipe away every care completely. Not for the hour or the day, but forever. Just how does God offer this consolation? Through His Holy Word, the Bible, and the many promises contained within. He also pours out His love and peace upon those who call upon His name and sends the Holy Spirit to indwell the hearts of those who have been born again through the redeeming blood of Jesus Christ His Son. Imagine, even with all the scary news reports of death tolls, infection rates, stock crashes, food shortages, job losses, and other cares we are facing today, you can still have complete peace and consolation! Just turn to the One who formed you in your mother’s womb and who loves you in ways unfathomable to the human mind.
