Thought of the Day 1/14/21
“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7 (ESV)
When our Lord Jesus Christ took on the form of man and came to this earth, the angels proclaimed “peace on earth”. When He arose from the grave and was reunited with His disciples, He proclaimed peace to them. In parting from them before ascending to return to Heaven, He assured them His peace would be with them. He had promised a peace that would encompass them and guide them until He returned in His Second Coming. The Apostle Paul here in this epistle to the church at Phillipi lets them (and, through the preservation of God’s Word, us) know that God’s peace, which surpasses all understanding, will remain with them as they abide with Him.
If you are abiding in God and have put your trust in Him, His peace will keep watch over you and encompass all areas of your life — with Him, with others, with yourself. Your heart, your mind, your soul can have the peace that surpasses all understanding if you will abide in Him and trust through the name of His Son, Jesus Christ.

Thought of the Day 1/8/21
“Therefore You are great, O Lord God. For there is none like You, and there is no God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears.” 2 Samuel 7:22 (ESV)
King David here has just heard from God that his throne will be established for all future generations and lead to the Messiah, Jesus Christ. David, though considered even today one of the greatest kings of all time, regarded himself of lowly origin as the youngest of his father’s sons and “just a shepherd boy” (considered by some nations at that time the lowest occupation). However, God had chosen David to lead the nation of Israel and to be the earthly bloodline through which our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ would arise. David heard these words from God and had heard the promises of the Messiah passed down from the spiritual elders of past generations. There is truly none like God so faithful to keep their promises, so pure and righteous in character, so full of grace and mercy for those of us who do not deserve it. May we join in David’s praise of our Lord today that there is none like Him, and worthy is He to be praised!

Thought of the Day 1/10/2020
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalms 73:26 (ESV)
The Psalmist here in today’s verse understands the brevity and fragility of his own life. He understands that circumstances will arise where, in sickness or trials or even death, he will not be mentally, emotionally, or physically strong enough to overcome them. However, he also holds an important treasure in knowing that God will always be the strength for him when he cannot overcome what life puts in front of him. When contemplating trials of this life, and even ultimately death itself, are you able to say with such confidence as the Psalmist that God will be “the strength of [your] heart and [your] portion forever”?
