“Let me hear in the morning of Your steadfast love, for in You I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to You I lift up my soul.” Psalm 143:8 (ESV)
It is possible David pled this to God in the literal nighttime, or perhaps meant it figuratively as he was experiencing a spiritual darkness. Either way, he is pleading for God to show David His steadfast love “in the morning”. Whether literal or figurative morning, David desires it quickly and expediently for it is in the steadfast love of God that David has put his trust. It is my earnest prayer that each of you could say the same. David trusted in God for his salvation and hope even in the darkness. He also sought direction from the Lord in “the way [he] should go”. David wanted to know the Lord’s will for his life so that he could walk in the safety of righteousness and solid ground. When we walk in this way we can avoid the ever present dangers of the enemy, who “prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8 ESV) Seek out the Lord and His direction for your life that you may keep yourself from the enemy.
